The KNH School of Nursing is one of Kenya's leading institutions for post-basic specialised nursing training.


 Located within Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi, the school was established in 1996 to strengthen specialised nursing services by training nurses in critical care, theatre, renal, emergency, oncology and neonatal care.


The institution is accredited by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) and offers higher diploma programmes alongside short professional courses for healthcare workers.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • KRN/M, KRCHN or BScN qualification
  • At least two years of work experience (three years for KNH staff)
  • KCSE Mean Grade C- or Division III at O-Level
  • Professional certificates
  • NCK registration certificate
  • Valid NCK practising licence
  • National ID or Passport
  • Valid medical insurance cover (NHIF or equivalent)

Foreign applicants must also provide translated academic documents (where applicable), KNEC equation of certificates and obtain a temporary NCK licence before commencing training.

Additional Fees

Students undertaking higher diploma programmes are required to pay:

  • NCK indexing, training materials and licensure examination fee – KSh 23,400
  • Application fee – KSh 1,500
