KUCCPS Releases 2025 KCSE University and TVET Placement Results
Thousands of students can now confirm their placements after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) published the 2025 KCSE placement results.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that 293,869 students successfully secured placements in universities, colleges, and technical institutions for the 2025/2026 academic cycle.
The figure represents a sharp rise compared to the annual average of about 70,000 placements recorded in previous years.
The government attributed the increase to expanded placement opportunities across higher learning institutions.
Students can now log into the KUCCPS portal to view the institutions and courses allocated to them.
The portal displays both the institution and the programme assigned to each successful applicant.
Placement Breakdown
Most successful applicants secured places in degree programmes.
The placement exercise also allocated students to specialized institutions, including the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Kenya Utalii College, Teacher Training Colleges, and Diploma in Law programmes.
| Institution/Programme | Number Placed |
|---|---|
| Degree Programmes | 202,133 |
| Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) | 28,246 |
| Diploma in Law (Paralegal) | 500 |
| Kenya Utalii College | 765 |
| Secondary Teacher Training Colleges | 875 |
| Total Placements | 293,869 |
For the first time, KUCCPS placed students into Kenya Utalii College through the centralized placement system, expanding opportunities available to applicants.
Transfer Window Extended to One Month
The Ministry of Education has extended the inter-institution transfer period from two weeks to one month.
The extension gives students more time to request transfers if they wish to change their allocated institutions or programmes.
The move is expected to reduce pressure on applicants who require additional time to review their placements before making final decisions.
Growing Interest in TVET Courses
The placement exercise also highlighted changing education preferences among KCSE candidates.
According to the ministry, 8,915 students who qualified for university degree programmes voluntarily chose Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses instead.
The trend reflects increasing confidence in skills-based education and the expanding employment opportunities associated with technical training.

Medicine Remains Highly Competitive
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome noted that competition remained intense in several professional courses.
She revealed that 6,500 applicants sought admission into Bachelor of Medicine programmes. However, universities had capacity to admit only 702 students.
The figures illustrate the continued mismatch between student demand and available university spaces in highly competitive courses.
According to KUCCPS, the placement exercise accommodated 81 per cent of all candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above.
Universities to Issue Admission Letters Immediately
Education CS Julius Ogamba directed universities and colleges to begin preparing admission letters and joining instructions without delay.
The move aims to ensure a smooth transition for successful applicants ahead of the new academic year.
At the same time, the Higher Education Financing portal has opened for first-time applicants seeking government scholarships and student loans.
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has also opened applications for Undergraduate Subsequent Loans, enabling continuing students to apply for financial support.
The release of the placement results marks a major milestone for the 2025 KCSE candidates and signals the beginning of the admission process across Kenya's higher education institutions, with thousands of students now preparing to begin the next stage of their academic journeys.
