The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art Innovation Hub in a major boost to the institution's technology and research ambitions.
According to an internal memorandum dated June 25, 2026, construction of the modern facility will begin on July 1 and is expected to take 52 weeks to complete.
The project, funded through a strategic partnership with a foundation, is expected to transform teaching, research, entrepreneurship, and innovation while positioning the university among Kenya's leading centres for technology-driven learning.

Innovation Hub to Transform Learning and Research
The Innovation Hub will be built on the open space adjacent to the university's main gate along Haile Selassie Avenue.
According to the university, the facility will provide students, researchers and innovators with a modern environment designed to support enterprise development, cutting-edge research and practical problem-solving.
Officials say the project reflects a shared commitment to innovation and developing practical solutions that contribute to Kenya's national development agenda.
"The Foundation has generously committed to funding the construction of the Innovation Hub, reflecting a shared commitment to innovation and practical solutions for national development," the memo stated.
Construction Begins in July
Construction is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2026, and continue for approximately one year.
During the construction period, students, staff and visitors should expect temporary disruptions, including restricted access to sections surrounding the project site, as well as occasional noise and dust.
However, the university has assured members of its community that learning and other operations will continue with minimal disruption throughout the construction period.
The contractor has also been directed to observe all environmental, health and safety standards while undertaking the project.
Students Urged to Observe Safety Measures
University management has urged students, staff and visitors to comply with temporary access arrangements and observe all safety instructions around the construction site.
The institution says cooperation from the university community will help ensure the project progresses safely and on schedule.
Officials remain confident that the temporary inconveniences will be outweighed by the long-term benefits the facility will deliver.
TUK Eyes Leadership in Innovation
Vice-Chancellor Professor Benedict Mutua described the Innovation Hub as a significant investment in technology, education and future talent.
According to the university, the completed facility will become a central platform for enterprise incubation, practical skills development and innovation-driven research.
The project is expected to expand opportunities for students, researchers and entrepreneurs while strengthening TUK's reputation as a leading institution in technological education and applied research.
