Rationale of the programme The Degree consists of the coursework in literary studies, methodologies and theories and training in research for the purpose of professing of highly qualified teaching cadres for colleges and universities to meet a growing need for academics with PhDs. Objective of the programme By the end of the programme, the student should be able to: (i) Develop good and credible research tools and capabilities; (ii) Acquire effective academic writing skills; (iii) Deepen and enhance critical thinking skills; (iv) Conceptualize and choose a viable research topic; (v) Produce original research with novel contribution to knowledge. Admission requirements: ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR PHD IN LITERATURE I) The common regulations for admission requirements for PhD in the University of Nairobi shall apply. II) In addition, applicants must be holders of a Bachelor‟s and Master‟s degree in any other relevant discipline from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by University of Nairobi Senate. The programme offers full-time, part-time, and school-based and distance learning modes.
