The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened applications for teachers and college tutors seeking to serve as assessors for the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) oral and practical examinations.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, June 30, the examination body invited qualified professionals to submit their applications before the July 15, 2026 deadline.

KNEC said successful applicants will undergo on-the-job training during the assessment process to familiarise them with the council's marking standards and examination procedures.

The recruitment offers qualified teachers an opportunity to support national examinations, even as unresolved payment disputes continue to cast uncertainty over the 2026 KCSE assessment process.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

According to the recruitment notice, KNEC is seeking assessors for practical and oral examination papers, including Power Mechanics, Electricity, Aviation Technology, French, German, Arabic and Music.

Applicants must be practising secondary school teachers or college tutors handling the relevant subjects and possess at least three years of teaching experience.

Candidates are also required to hold a minimum diploma in education or the relevant area of specialisation. Those applying to assess Aviation Technology must possess a diploma in Aeronautical Engineering.

Additionally, applicants must be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or another recognised professional body.

KNEC further stated that applicants must be recommended by their head of institution or employer, be 50 years or younger, and should not be serving any interdiction or disciplinary action.

"The professionals identified will be trained on-the-job during assessment of the 2026 KCSE examination papers," KNEC stated.

How to Apply

Eligible candidates are required to submit applications through the KNEC Contracted Professionals (CP2) portal.

Applicants with existing CP2 accounts can log in and apply through the vacancies section, while new users must first create an account before completing the application process.

Teachers already listed in KNEC's database of assessors are not required to submit fresh applications.

Recruitment Comes Amid Payment Dispute

The recruitment exercise comes as KNEC continues to face pressure from teachers over the delayed payment of allowances for supervising and marking the 2025 national examinations.

Thousands of teachers are still waiting for their dues despite the National Treasury releasing KSh1.5 billion to facilitate payment.

The dispute escalated in May after the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) directed members to boycott invigilation and marking of the 2026 national examinations until the outstanding arrears are settled.
