The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has assured thousands of students who are yet to receive SMS notifications after the release of the 2026/2027 placement results that there is no cause for alarm.
The agency says the notifications are still being sent, with successful applicants receiving priority before messages are dispatched to unsuccessful candidates.
KUCCPS has also announced a one-month transfer window and plans to reopen applications for eligible students who missed the initial placement exercise.

KUCCPS Reassures Students Yet to Receive University Placement SMS Notifications
KUCCPS has urged students who have not received placement messages to remain calm.
Chief Executive Officer Agnes Wahome said the agency is still sending SMS notifications following the release of the 2026/2027 university and college placement results.
According to Wahome, KUCCPS first prioritized applicants who successfully secured placements before sending notifications to unsuccessful candidates.
She noted that all applicants will eventually receive communication regarding their placement status.
Why Some Students Have Not Received Messages
Wahome explained that some applicants had indicated different placement preferences during the application process.
Some allowed KUCCPS to place them in any available programme if they missed their preferred courses.
Others instructed the agency not to allocate them to alternative programmes if they failed to secure their selected choices.
About 3,000 applicants chose not to be considered for any alternative courses, meaning they will receive messages confirming they were unsuccessful.
KUCCPS SMS Notification Categories
| Applicant Category | Status |
|---|---|
| Successfully placed students | SMS already being sent |
| Applicants awaiting placement outcome | Notifications still being processed |
| Applicants who declined alternative placement | Will receive unsuccessful notification |
KUCCPS Opens Course Transfer Window
The placement agency has also announced a one-month transfer window for students wishing to change their courses or institutions.
The opportunity will allow learners to switch programmes after reviewing their placement results.
Students already admitted to universities but experiencing difficulties with their current courses will also be allowed to request programme changes before September.
KUCCPS says the move aims to help students pursue courses that better match their interests and career goals.
Fresh Opportunity for Students Who Missed Applications
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has directed KUCCPS to develop a mechanism allowing late applications.
The initiative targets approximately 51,000 students who qualified for placement but failed to apply during the initial application period.
The students will be allowed to compete for available vacancies once applications reopen.

Government Says No Student Should Be Left Behind
The Ministry of Education says the new measures are intended to ensure every qualified learner has an opportunity to access higher education.
Successful applicants will also qualify to apply for support through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and the Higher Education Fund (HEF).
The ministry believes the expanded application and transfer windows will improve access to university and college education while reducing the number of eligible students left out of the placement process.
