OBJECTIVES Overall objective: To facilitate the strengthening of public health training, research capacity and provision of services to the local and international communities. Specific objectives: To promote training of trans-disciplinary experts capable of meeting the emerging challenges in the field of public health in developing countries as well as promotion of health. Admission requirements: The common regulations for Doctor of Philosophy Degree in all faculties of the University of Nairobi apply. Holders of any of the following degrees are eligible for admission into the programme: a) Holder of a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Nairobi; or b) Holder of a Bachelor's and Master's degree or equivalent academic qualifications recognized by the University of Nairobi Senate as of comparable status; c) Able to produce evidence to the satisfaction of Senate of his/her adequate background in the discipline and capacity to carry out research; d) May be required to undergo an interview by the Department to determine suitability for registration; e) A draft proposal of at least 15 pages submitted through online application system. Structure Summary - Provisional admission, Concept presentation and allocation of supervisor(s) - Proposal writing and presentation - Ethical approval, full registration and data collection - Analysis and report writing - Thesis presentation Mode of Delivery Proposal, progress report and thesis defense is done virtually and could also be presented face-to-face. During the study period, a candidate participates in seminars, journal clubs and study fellowships. PhD students, under the supervision of an academic staff and or an expert as a supervisor, carry out a research thesis project on a selected topic in Public Health.
